A student in a research lab tells you that she has isolated a protein that she thinks binds to DNA. After a series of experiments she is surprised to find that she can identify 3 different possible interactions between DNA and the protein. She has tried numerous approaches, and no other interactions seem to “show up”. Why is the student surprised?
